building a customized central hub for sharing data across your organization or community
We responded to the recent disease outbreak by creating the Coronavirus Response Hub for sharing data-driven maps, resources and news about the coronavirus to the local community of Monterey County.
ArcGIS Hubs are a great tool for building modern cloud-based engagement platforms, allowing organizations to work more effectively with their communities. The hub can display interactive maps, apps and dashboards for visualizing and analyzing a crisis in the context of your organization’s or community’s population and assets.
Extrapolating our view beyond sampled areas
Natural resource management teams often look for robust ways to extrapolate data beyond sampled areas due to limited funding, time and resources for sampling. We extracted fish observations from undersea video imagery and created a georeferenced database. We then derived seafloor habitats that are known to influence the occurrence of fish from a digital elevation model and used them, in addition to the presence of rockfish, to determine areas of suitable habitat.
We tested our models with the actual occurrences of rockfish, yielding accuracy scores adequate for supporting the designation of Essential Fish Habitats.
Using GIS to ANALYZe spatial and temporal patterns of native bunch grass in Fort Ord Grasslands
We worked with the Bureau of Land Management to map the distribution of a native grass, determine the influence of surrounding environmental factors and to sample vegetation biomass and diversity. The results of this study informed resource management staff on evaluating the effects of seasonal grazing.
